Timothy Centre: Entrepreneurship
The Timothy Centre will be home to a number of entrepreneurial ventures aimed at improving conditions for Ugandan farmers, helping Ugandan business men to expand or start new ventures while at the same time generating operating funds for the Center.
Uganda, a country rich in natural resources, has received much foreign aid through the decades with little to show for it in terms of sustainable development. Since Uganda’s economy is primarily based on agriculture, our focus will begin there.
The Centre will provide training in sound business practices, based upon biblical principles. We will assist Ugandans by:
- Training them to recognize business opportunities,
- Sensitizing them to appropriate risk taking,
- Providing training in management skills in order to mobilize human, financial and material resources in bringing a project to fruition, and
- Providing follow up to assist with sustainability
Projects that are in the early stages of development include:
- Bee by-products from the onsite apiary: candle making
- Development of an orchard and farm: fruit drying, sale of fresh produce
- Aquaculture: explore possibility of fish farming and propagation of aquatic plants.
- “Farm Shop”: sell fertilizers, compost, nursery plants, garden tools, seeds, beekeeping supplies, etc., to the local community.
- Maize mill: to service the community around the centre and cater for our own needs
- Guest House: The guest house units have been built designed for both eco tourists and for travelers.
- Eco Tourism: The Timothy site is home to a wide range of bird species. More than 40 types of birds have been seen on the property. The onsite apiary also lends itself to eco tourism, where we will offer a ‘hands on’ experience in handling the African bee. Over the coming months we will continue to develop the apiary and will build a network of trails though the wetlands for visitors to explore this rich environment. We have already had considerable interest from Japan and China from individuals and groups wanting to come and do something different.
